The organs of a 24-year-old man from Tiruppur district, who was declared brain dead, gave a fresh lease of life to seven recipients.According to a press release, K. Gunaseelan developed breathing difficulties after choking while having food on July 15. He was admitted to KMCH Hospital in Coimbatore, where he was declared brain dead on July 21 despite intensive treatment.With the consent of his parents and the approval of the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) and the police, his liver, kidneys, eyes, bones and skin were harvested. The liver and kidneys were transplanted on needy patients at KMCH Hospital, while the eyes, bones and skin were sent to another hospital in Coimbatore.KMCH Chairman Nalla Palaniswami thanked the family and appealed to the public to support organ donation.
