A 12-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by classmates inside a school on the island of Corfu and taken to hospital with injuries, according to a complaint filed by his father.
Police are investigating the incident, which state broadcaster ERT reported to have occurred Monday. The father filed a complaint Tuesday, bringing charges against school staff and the parents of other students.
Under Greece’s automatic arrest procedure, the school principal and vice principal were briefly detained but later released on a prosecutor’s verbal order.
The boy was taken to Corfu General Hospital, where he remains under precautionary observation. Doctors expect him to be discharged later Friday.
