A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody in western Greece on allegations of racially motivated harassment and threats against a 13-year-old, police said Thursday.
The teenager was charged with causing harm to a vulnerable person with a racist motive, as well as making threats and engaging in verbal abuse. His father was also arrested for neglecting to supervise his son.
According to police, the 15-year-old had sent multiple abusive and threatening messages to the younger boy through a social media platform over the course of several months. The alleged harassment also took place in person, including at the school attended by the victim and in other locations around the town of Messolongi.
Police said the suspect approached the 13-year-old outside his home earlier this week, where he allegedly insulted and threatened him.
The investigation found that the suspect repeatedly used language targeting the victim’s national origin.
