Turkey has long positioned itself as a regional energy transit hub: Caspian and Russian gas to Europe, Caspian and Iraqi oil to the Mediterranean. The conflict in the Middle East and near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz have created serious challenges for Ankara. But they have also given it an opportunity to advance its strategic energy ambitions, something Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar touted at the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit last week.
