Varisha Moradi, a Kurdish political prisoner held in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, has been deprived of her right to make phone calls to her family.

According to a report by the human rights news agency HRANA, this new restriction was imposed after she chanted slogans against the execution of death sentences during her time in the prison yard. Informed sources stated that this measure is a continuation of the security pressures and restrictions that have been leveled against the political prisoner for months.

Varisha Moradi had previously been barred from meeting with her family and legal counsel as well. Reports published by human rights organizations indicate that these restrictions have persisted under orders from judicial and security authorities, and at certain points, her lawyers were not even granted access to her case file.

The Kurdish political prisoner, who was sentenced to death on the charge of “rebellion,” has been repeatedly highlighted by human rights groups since her arrest in August 2023 as one of the detainees under intense pressure in Evin. Reports also indicate that she has faced beatings, torture, and deprivation of medical care during her detention and interrogation periods.
