Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported on Monday, May 25, that five female political prisoners held in Evin Prison have been punitively stripped of their right to use prison telephones since yesterday. The five prisoners subjected to the restriction are Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee, Zahra Safaei, Marziyeh Farsi, Shiva Esmaeili, and Sakineh Parvaneh.

According to the HRANA report, the disciplinary measure was imposed after the prisoners chanted slogans in the prison recreation yard in protest against executions. The report added that the prisoners had already been denied in-person visits with their families and lawyers, restrictions that remain in place.

Earlier reports have also documented similar restrictions imposed on female political prisoners in Qarchak Prisonfollowing peaceful protests.
