According to him, the country’s security institutions have been transformed into tools for the protection of the ruling elite and their economic interests rather than instruments for safeguarding Nigerians.

Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Nigerian Government of privatising the country’s security architecture to protect “loot” and “stolen power,” while abandoning ordinary citizens to insecurity and economic hardship.

Sowore made the remarks on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, in his speech after emerging as the AAC presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the country’s security institutions have been transformed into tools for the protection of the ruling elite and their economic interests rather than instruments for safeguarding Nigerians.

“Now, look at what they are doing to secure their loot and the power they have stolen. Security has been privatized — one of the most dangerous developments in Nigeria’s history!” Sowore said.
