Healthcare delivery in Enugu State has been imparted, following the total grounding of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu State (FNHE).
An indefinite strike action embarked upon by the hospital’s workforce has completely paralysed clinical operations at the facility—the only stand-alone federal institution providing specialised mental health services in the geopolitical zone.
A doctor at the hospital, speaking with SaharaReporters under condition of anonymity, painted a grim picture of the current state of the hospital, warning of catastrophic consequences for psychiatric patients across the region.
"The strike is impacting negatively on the entire South-East where FNPH Enugu is the only stand-alone facility providing mental health," the senior physician lamented. "As we speak, the institution has completely grounded to a halt. Gaining access to critical psychiatric evaluation or emergency mental healthcare is currently impossible."
