Activities in federal health institutions across Nigeria were partially disrupted on Wednesday as House Officers commenced a nationwide strike over the non-payment of two months' salaries by the Federal Government.
The industrial action followed the expiration of a one-month ultimatum issued by the House Officers’ Forum of Nigeria (HOFN), which had demanded the immediate payment of outstanding salaries or risk a nationwide shutdown of services by doctors undergoing their mandatory one-year internship programme.

In a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu and copied to key stakeholders in the health sector, the doctors expressed frustration over what they described as persistent delays in salary payments despite repeated assurances by relevant authorities.
