Heavy overnight rain, accompanied by lightning and thunder, lashes the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad for more than three hours.

The twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad received heavy overnight showers. There was heavy rain in some taluk towns too. There were no casualties. But the losses to crops and public infrastructure are yet to be assessed, officials said.Heavy rain lashed the twin cities for more than three hours. Strong lightning and thunder accompanied the rain. Following the rain, the temperature dipped drastically.After the downpour, rainwater gushed into houses at Jannath Nagar and surrounding areas, giving sleepless nights to the people. Some roads were also inundated. And, rainwater stagnated on vacant plots in several areas.Officers said that a house at Uppinbetageri collapsed due to rain. However, no one was injured as the inmates moved to a safer place.There was heavy rainfall in some areas in Vijayapura district too. The city witnessed showers on Saturday. Some nearby taluks saw heavy rain on Sunday. Roads in some areas in the old city were inundated.The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 17 districts in the State, including some in North Karnataka, for the next 24 hours.
