MANILA, Philippines — Last week’s changes of committee leadership in the House of Representatives were not linked to the affected lawmakers’ impeachment votes, Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said Sunday.
This followed the speculation that they lost their posts for opposing Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment.
Adiong denied that the leadership shakeup at the House appropriations committee and the special committee on Southern Tagalog development was tied to votes against Duterte’s impeachment, saying panel leadership changes happen “regularly.”
“It only became an issue because of the impeachment, which is why many are trying to link the changes in committee chairmanships to the result of the voting,” added Adiong, spokesman for the impeachment prosecution panel.
