MANILA, Philippines — Instead of being deterred from supporting Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment due to his proximity to the Dutertes’ stronghold, Cagayan de Oro Rep. Lordan Suan said it is his being a Mindanaoan that spurred him to back accountability calls and join the prosecution team.

Suan, during the first-ever press briefing of the prosecution panel on Tuesday, was asked how he prepared for the impeachment, considering that he, like the Dutertes of Davao City, both hail from Mindanao.

In reply, Suan said that he took the job as a member of the House of Representatives’ prosecution team because funds under Duterte’s jurisdiction — which are now being questioned — were also paid by taxpayers from Mindanao.
