The stakeholders, under the aegis of Concerned Stakeholders of Nsukka, said the party risks major electoral backlash if it abandons popularity, credibility and grassroots acceptance in favour of transactional politics ahead of the election.

Concerned political stakeholders from Nsukka in Enugu State have warned the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) against allowing money politics and political imposition to determine the party’s candidate for the 2027 Enugu North Senatorial election.

The stakeholders, under the aegis of Concerned Stakeholders of Nsukka, said the party risks major electoral backlash if it abandons popularity, credibility and grassroots acceptance in favour of transactional politics ahead of the election.

In a statement signed by Chief Ugwuoke Odo on behalf of the group, the stakeholders insisted that only candidates with genuine connection to the people and broad-based support should emerge as flag bearers of the party.

According to the statement, the political history of Nsukka has consistently shown that voters prefer accessible and people-oriented leaders rather than candidates perceived to rely mainly on financial influence and elite political backing.
