Covid-19 activity in Greece remained at very low levels during the week of May 11-17, while influenza and RSV activity continued to decline, according to the country’s public health authority.
Health officials reported 18 new Covid-19 hospital admissions during epidemiological week 20 of 2026, up from nine the previous week, though no new intubations or deaths were recorded. Wastewater monitoring also showed very low SARS-CoV-2 viral loads nationwide.
Authorities said the NB.1.8.1 variant remained the dominant strain circulating in Greece, alongside XFG and BA.3.2 variants under monitoring by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control and the World Health Organization. Officials said there was no evidence that any of the variants caused more severe illness.
Influenza activity was also low. Greece recorded five new flu hospital admissions during the reporting week, down from 12 the previous week.
RSV positivity also remained low, with no positive samples detected during the week. However, health authorities continued to recommend vaccination for older adults and high-risk groups against Covid-19, influenza and RSV.
