CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (Ormeco) warned consumers on Saturday (May 23) of possible rotational brownouts as the province’s power supply remained under critical condition due to insufficient generating capacity.
In an advisory, Ormeco said the Oriental Mindoro grid would be placed under “red alert status” from 8 a.m. to midnight as electricity demand continues to outstrip available supply.
The cooperative said the province’s dependable capacity is only 57.4 megawatts (MW), while peak demand may reach 71.1 MW, resulting in a deficit of 6.4 MW to 13.7 MW.
