MANILA, Philippines — Senior citizens’ rights advocate and lawyer Romulo Macalintal on Friday called on the passage of a law that will strictly delegate the distribution of government assistance to government agencies only, and not with the presence of elected officials or their operatives.
Macalintal made the call following a fatal incident involving a senior citizen.
The elderly died after being hit by a pick-up truck while he was lining up for subsidized rice in front of the Bureau of Animal Industry office in Quezon City around 4 a.m. last Wednesday.
