CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Electricity rates increased slightly this month, brought about by reduced output from renewable energy sources amid the dry season, which necessitated the use of more expensive power supply alternatives, the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (Ormeco) said on Wednesday.

In an advisory posted on social media, Ormeco said that the rate in May reached P14.9177/kWh compared to April rates at P14.4777/kWh, an increase of P0.44/kWh or 3.04 percent, in the May 2026 bills.

According to data from Ormeco, power generated from renewable sources such as hydropower dropped significantly from 13.9 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) to just 8.6 million kWh. This decline is typical during the summer months as water levels in reservoirs and rivers decrease.
