Stock selling dominated the start and finish of Wednesday’s session at the Euronext Athens bourse, but the action of buyers in between sufficed to revert the benchmark at Athinon Avenue to an upward course after three consecutive days of losses upon closing.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,220.01 points, adding 0.40% to Tuesday’s 2,211.20 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.41%, ending at 5,628.94 points.
The banks index advanced 0.22%. Eurobank gave up 1.45% and Optima parted with 0.96%, while Piraeus collected 1.74%, National improved 0.55%, Bank of Cyprus climbed 0.43% and Alpha rose 0.06%.
Viohalco grabbed 3.87% and Motor Oil augmented 3.64%. PPC’s price also grew, by 0.61%, with the utility announcing the conclusion of its share capital increase from which it will eventually draw €4.25 billion for its investment program.
In total 68 stocks showed gains, 42 recorded losses and 14 remained unchanged.
