The DA has warned against the use of state resources for electioneering, saying it will seek clarity in Parliament over whether branding on KZN water tankers complies with public administration rules.

The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal says it will be submitting a written parliamentary question over the branding of government water tankers.

This follows concerns raised by the party after images emerged of department vehicles reportedly displaying the face of Cogta MEC Reverand Thulasizwe Buthelezi.

The party says it has seen images of water tankers branded with the MEC’s face, raising questions about the use of state resources for personal branding.

“The Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA) 3 of 2000, states that slapping personal branding onto a government building or vehicle blurs the line between the state and the individual, making administrative decisions appear self-serving rather than impartial,” said DA KwaZulu-Natal leader Sithembiso Ngema.
