Parliament on Tuesday voted to lift the automatic immunity from prosecution of small leftwing party leader Zoe Konstantopoulou over two separate cases of alleged defamation and disrupting a trial.

The first case against the Course of Freedom party leader and lawmaker was brought by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis for alleged defamation and was backed by 162 MPs, with 53 voting against.

The second case followed legal action by two members of the judiciary who alleged Konstantopoulou – who is also a practising lawyer – broke privacy laws and disrupted the functioning of a court during a trial in the city of Larissa in central Greece. A total 177 lawmakers voted in favor of lifting her immunity in that case, and 54 voted against.

Course of Freedom is the smallest of eight parties represented in Parliament, and has five lawmakers.
