Parliament has voted to lift the parliamentary immunity of Zoe Konstantopoulou, leader of the Course of Freedom party and former speaker, over three cases linked to her role as a lawyer for victims’ families in the trial over the 2023 Tempe train crash.
Of the 236 MPs who took part in the vote, 173 backed lifting her immunity, 36 voted against and 27 abstained.
The cases relate to alleged personal data violations during incidents at Larissa courthouse and at the University of Thessaly’s Gaiopolis campus, where the Tempe trial is being held.
Konstantopoulou dismissed the allegations as “political persecution” and “ridiculous false accusations,” and criticized Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis for refusing her request to postpone the debate.
Kaklamanis responded by questioning whether her legal commitments were compatible with her parliamentary duties.
