A senior member of the Academic Board, in a protest petition obtained by SaharaReporters, described the appointment of Dr. Odo as illegal, unconstitutional and procedurally defective.

A fresh crisis is brewing at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Eha-Amufu, Enugu State, following the controversial appointment of Dr. Samuel Odo as Deputy Provost of the institution despite his alleged rejection by members of the Academic Board during an election.

Members of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) and other staff of the institution have accused the management and Governing Council of imposing Odo on the college, warning that the decision could trigger industrial unrest and destabilise academic activities.

SaharaReporters gathered that angry staff members are mobilising ahead of a congress scheduled for Thursday this week, where a final decision on possible protest actions and industrial measures is expected to be taken.

The development has also exposed cracks within the union, as some staff accused the Chairman of COEASU in the college, Mr. Chidi Agbo, of allegedly betraying the union and acting in line with the interests of the college management led by the Provost, Dr. Pauline Ikwuegbu.
