Renee Co, a neophyte lawmaker and a lawyer, has been named as one of the spokespersons of the House prosecution panel for the expected impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.“Yes po. This representation, representing the youth, will be one of the spokesperson of the House prosecution panel, and we will bring the voice of the youth in their call for justice,” Co said in an interview at the sidelines of the filing of a House resolution calling on Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa to turn himself to authorities amid an International Criminal Court warrant of arrest against him.“The House prosecution panel is ready to do its job as provided under the Senate rules on impeachment. Ikinagagalak natin na tuloy-tuloy na ipanawagan ang pangangailangan ng kabataan para lahat ng mga kurakot, lahat ng sangkot sa korupsyon ay managot,” Co, who passed the Bar Exams in 2023, added.(We are honored to call for holding the corrupt liable.)The Senate convened as an impeachment court on Monday afternoon after receiving the Articles of Impeachment last week.The Articles of Impeachment accuse the Vice President of alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust, bribery, and other high crimes, based on the following acts:a) systematic misuse, misappropriation, and irregular liquidation of confidential funds amounting to P500 million released to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and P112.5 million released to the Department of Education (DepEd) during her tenure as Education chiefb) amassing unexplained wealth manifestly disproportionate to her lawful income and earnings during her incumbency as a public officialc) failure to fully and truthfully disclose all her and her spouse's assets, liabilities, and net worth in her statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN) including in her SALN for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024;d) failure to divest, and instead, willfully continued, all her business interests during her tenure as vice president for the years 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025e) giving monetary gifts or payments to DepEd officials to induce the violation and circumvention of procurement and other related laws.f) contracting for the assassination of the President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and the former Speaker of the House and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, by making grave threats, and by actively inciting sedition against the republic.The items a, e, and f constitute Articles 1, 3, and 4, while items b, c, and d are all subsections of Article 2 of the Articles of Impeachment.In a separate interview, House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Leila de Lima of ML party-list said the House prosecution contingent will be stationed near the Senate so that they can proceed to the Senate premises if their presence for the impeachment trial of the Vice President is needed."We will be on standby near the Senate, given the scheduled convening of the Senate impeachment court. We will be [near] there for any eventuality.
