Roberto Giachetti, an MP for the opposition, centrist Italia Viva (IV) party, on Friday interrupted a protest at the 20-month gridlock in the parliamentary commission that oversees State broadcaster Rai by chaining himself to his bench in the Lower House.
Giachetti thanked Premier Giorgia Meloni for encouraging four centre-right Rai oversight board members to vow to ensure a quorum at the next meeting of the body.
"I also thank the Prime Minister who called me today, to whom I explained my reasons, which I believe she understood.
I believe she somehow facilitated the majority's position," said Giachetti after Francesco Filini of Meloni's right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, Roberto Rosso of the centre-right post Berlusconi Forza Italia (FI) party, Giorgio Maria Bergesio of the right-wing League party and Maurizio Lupi of the small centre-right Noi Moderati party said they disagreed with Giachetti but would ensure a quroum on the oversight body.
Giachetti went on: "I would first like to thank the Speaker of the Chamber, who came to see me.
