A construction worker who took part in an agitation questioning genuineness of investigation into the death of his son-in-law died at the ESI Medical College and Hospital in Coimbatore on Sunday (May 10, 2026).
The Singanallur police had registered the death of Maha Maheswarar (32), reported on May 7, as suicide in the first information report.
The deceased’s father-in-law Pandi of Karaiyarayappa Thevar Street near Sulur and other relatives reportedly conducted their protest by blocking the Kamarajar Road reportedly after finding blood marks on the body that was handed over to them after autopsy.
A section of the protesters had also caused damage to the door and windows of the mortuary, and indulged in a scuffle with doctors and the police.
Based on a complaint lodged by the hospital authorities, Singanallur police registered a case against Mayandi and Kesavakumar and a few other relatives of the deceased.
