A 23-year-old man was killed after being run over by a heavy container-handling vehicle at Chennai Port on Wednesday (June 10, 2026). The Chennai Port police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.A senior police official said that Balamurugan, a native of Vriddachalam, was employed as a contract worker at the Chennai International Terminals Private Limited (CITPL) facility within Chennai Port. He was residing in Washermenpet.On Wednesday evening, while on duty, Balamurugan was allegedly knocked down by a straddle carrier, a specialised vehicle used to transport containers for loading and unloading ships. He died on the spot.After being alerted, personnel from the Chennai Port police station shifted the body to Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem examination.Following the incident, contract workers staged a protest demanding a thorough investigation into Balamurugan’s death.
