There has been no feared dip in Italian organ donations in the wake of the recent case of a two-year-old boy who died after being given a damaged heart, the National Transplant Centre said Friday, saying donations had actually risen somewhat in the three months between January and March.
In the January-March 2026 period, it said, organ donations increased compared to the same period in 2025.
There has not yet been the feared negative impact on donations following little Domenico's case, according to the latest data from the National Transplant Centre.
"The latest updated data show that from January 1 to March 8 we had 340 donations, while in the same period in 2025 there were 316.
"The rejection rate in intensive care units is currently down from 27.7% to 26.9%.
