The special court for POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act cases in Tirunelveli on Thursday sentenced to death a labourer found guilty of sexually assaulting three girls aged 6, 7 and 8.
According to prosecution, the accused Anand Sekar, 41, of Alagiripuram under Melapalayam police station limits in Tirunelveli City took the girls to an unoccupied house in the area in 2023 and sexually assaulted them. He also threatened the children not to reveal this to anyone.
When the parents of the victims noticed changes in the activities of their children, they casually interacted with them to understand about the sexual assault on them. The parents filed cases against Anand Sekar at the Palayamkottai All Women Police, who arrested him under the POCSO Act.
POCSO Special Court Judge Suresh Kumar, who termed the crime as ‘rarest of rare case’, awarded death sentence to Anand Sekar.
He also directed the government to give the compensation of ₹7 lakh each to the three minor girls.
