The death sentence awarded by a trial court in Sivaganga to a man for sexually assaulting five girls was referred to the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.A Division Bench of Justices N. Anand Venkatesh and K.K. Ramakrishnan posted the matter for hearing to June 4. In April, the Special Court for POCSO Act cases in Sivaganga had sentenced Chandran to death, who is a labourer, from Maruthipatti near Singampunari in Sivaganga district. He was convicted by the trial court for sexually assaulting five girls all under the age of 10.Based on the complaint lodged by the father of one of the girls, Tiruppattur All-Women Police had registered a case and arrested Chandran.
