The Sivaganga court ordered 61 years of imprisonment to a 26-year-old man who had sexually assaulted a minor girl.Karuppasamy, 26, a daily wage labourer from Sivaganga sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl, a relative, in the year 2022. Subsequently, she became pregnant. The Sivaganga All Women Police registered a case regarding this and arrested Karuppasamy.The case related to this was being heard at the Sivaganga POCSO Fast Track Court. Judge Rohini, who completed the trial of this case, sentenced the accused Karuppasamy to one year of imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000 for threatening the girl; 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000 for repeated sexual assault; and 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000 for making the girl pregnant.Furthermore, the judge awarded 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000 for committing sexual assault despite knowing the relationship. In total, the court ordered 61 years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹4,000. The judge also directed the Government of Tamil Nadu to provide a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the victim.
