A lorry laden with gravel rammed an MTC bus in Saidapet on Friday morning and overturned on impact. No one was reported injured in the accident.

Around 5.45 am, the MTC bus, carrying more than 10 passengers, was travelling from T Nagar towards Saidapet, on Third Main Road. The lorry, which was transporting gravel from Pallavaram to a private firm on Anna Salai, accidentally hit the side of the bus. On impact, the lorry overturned and the gravel spilled onto the road, affecting traffic.

The lorry driver, Jeevan Raj, 24, of Tirusulam, was trapped inside the overturned vehicle, while the passengers in the bus escaped unhurt.

Traffic police rescued the lorry driver and cleared the bus and the lorry using a crane. Both vehicles were damaged in the accident.

Meanwhile, another accident was reported from Moopanar bridge and a 31-year-old engineer was killed in the accident. Police sources said Sai Kumar, 31 of Telangana and his friend Keerthivasan, 25- both are engineers were staying at Kattupakkam and working with a private firm. They were returning on a bike after attending a night event and their bike hit a pillar of Moopanar bridge at 3.30 am. In the impact, Sai Kumar died on the spot and his friend Keerthivasan was critically injured.
