A 21-year-old law student died in a car accident near Anna University in Kotturpuram in the early hours of Monday.
Police said four students, who are pursuing fourth year at the Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Taramani — two men and two women — were travelling from Anna Salai towards Taramani at around 3 a.m.
As they neared the exit junction close to the Anna University out gate on Gandhi Mandapam Road, the car ahead is said to have taken an abrupt right turn.
The sudden manoeuvre reportedly caused the driver to lose control, following which their vehicle crashed into the rear of the other car at high speed. Jinu, a native of Palakkad, sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene. The driver and another passenger suffered minor injuries.
The Mylapore Traffic Investigation Wing rushed to the spot after being alerted and shifted the injured to Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment. Both cars were severely damaged in the collision.
