A police constable and his five-year-old son were killed in a road accident at Duraisamypuram in Tenkasi district on Friday.
R. Kannan, 34, from Ilanji was serving as a police constable at Tenkasi police station. On Friday evening, Kannan was returning home from Kadayanallur on his two-wheeler with his wife and two children. At Duraisamypuram, a car coming from the opposite direction allegedly attempted to overtake a truck and collided head-on with the bike. The impact caused Kannan’s family to lose control and fall onto the road, police said.
All four were rushed to Tenkasi government hospital, where doctors declared Kannan’s younger son, K. Ram Krish, 5, dead on arrival. The others were later shifted to a private hospital, where Kannan died of his injuries on Friday night. His wife and elder son continued to receive treatment at the hospital.
The post-mortem examination for Kannan and Ram Krish was conducted at the Government Hospital in Tenkasi and the bodies were handed over to the family.
A case has been registered at Ilathur police station. Police have detained the car driver, L. Subash, 24, of Kadayanallur. Further investigation is under way.
