A 32-year-old Armed Reserve police constable died, and two fellow policemen sustained injuries after a speeding car allegedly rammed them on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway near an amusement park in Poonamallee on Sunday night.The deceased constable was identified as Tamilselvan, attached to the Chennai City Armed Reserve. His colleagues, Arunkumar, 25, and Saravanakumar, 26, who were injured in the mishap, are undergoing treatment in hospital.The police said Tamilselvan and five other Armed Reserve personnel had travelled to Ranipet to attend the wedding of a colleague and were returning to Chennai by car.At around 11 p.m., they halted the vehicle by the roadside near an amusement park along the Chennai-Poonamallee-Bengaluru National Highway. Tamilselvan, Arunkumar, and Saravanakumar had stepped out of the vehicle when a luxury car on the highway veered out of control and rammed them.Tamilselvan suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. Arunkumar sustained a grievous head injury and was rushed to a private hospital in Chettipedu near Sriperumbudur, where doctors said his condition remained critical. Saravanakumar suffered a fracture in his leg and continued to receive medical treatment.Personnel from the Poonamallee Traffic Investigation Wing rushed to the accident site, recovered the body, and sent it to a government hospital for post-mortem examination.Following an investigation, the police registered a case and arrested the driver of the car.
