The head teacher of Rome's prestigious Giulio Cesare high school was questioned on Monday by police investigating a 'rape list' that appeared in one of the school's bathrooms last week in a case that has caused widespread shock in Italy.
Among the hypotheses being examined by criminal investigators is that the list, which featured the names of eight female pupils and one male one, was a form of reprisal related to the recent election of student representatives at the school.
Investigators also intend to question other teachers, sources said.
The school's teachers expressed "the firmest and most severe condemnation" for the "unspeakable" graffiti in a letter and "the most sincere and profound sympathy to the people, girls and boys, affected by this cowardly and unacceptable verbal violence".
