LOS ANGELES, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Reverend and activist Patrick McCollum says the late Jane Goodall supported the message in The Man Who Saves the World?, a documentary about McCollum arriving in theaters Friday from Area23a. Goodall gave an interview for the documentary and saw the completed film before her death.
In a recent Zoom interview with UPI, McCollum explained how he became close friends with Goodall through their shared passion for environmental work. McCollum is the founder and president of the McCollum Foundation for Peace.
The documentary from director Gabe Polsky shows McCollum's efforts to unite indigenous tribes of the Amazon as a step toward preserving the land and restoring the environment. In one of their final conversations, McCollum said, Goodall gave him encouragement regarding the film.
"She thought it promoted hope," McCollum said. "While the movie goes in many different directions, in the end something good is happening."
McCollum first connected with the Jaguar, Anaconda, Condor and Hummingbird tribes when he met their elders at the 2019 Kumbh Mela in Allahabad, India. They saw him as the person prophesied to unify the Amazon tribes against forces of environmental collapse.
