Tambaram City Traffic Police have carried out a raid on unauthorised vehicle rental outlets operating near educational institutions in Potheri, and seized 93 two-wheelers and 16 cars.According to Samay Singh Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), the shops were operated under odd names with about 20 vehicles each, which were rented out without verifying the renter’s age or credentials.“Many vehicles end up in the hands of minors, leading to accidents or being misused for illegal activities. Cars rented out here are also frequently linked to drunken driving cases. Hence, we initiated strict action,” he said.Officials stressed that renting private vehicles without proper authorisation is illegal and punishable under law.
