Coimbatore City Police conducted a 48-hour special drive from Saturday morning to Monday morning, aimed at containing activities of rowdy elements and other crimes in the city.Personnel from all the 20 law and order police stations in the city were involved in the exercise. They checked a total of 4,644 vehicles, including 2,399 cars in their jurisdictions. A total of 605 persons were found to have been driving their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.The police screened 2,253 persons using the Department’s face recognition app and collected fingerprints of persons found in suspicious circumstances. The police took 336 vehicles into custody for want of proper documents and for further verification.The police monitored activities of 410 persons in the ‘B’ and ‘C’ category history-sheeters and 15 of them were made to execute peace bonds. Eight persons with non-bailable warrants pending against them and seven rowdies were arrested.Searches were also carried out in a total of 114 lodges, hotels and other accommodations in the city.Seven persons were arrested after they were found in possession of ganja.
