The Coimbatore police seized over 20 kg of ganja and synthetic drugs, arrested 10 persons and registered nine cases during a district-wide surprise enforcement drive against narcotics on Saturday (July 4).The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police Allatipalli Pavan Kumar Reddy as part of the district police’s campaign to curb drug trafficking and abuse.Based on intelligence inputs, over 400 police personnel, led by deputy superintendents of police of Karumathampatti and Perur sub-divisions, carried out simultaneous searches at over 20 locations across the district.The searches covered college hostels, accommodations occupied by people from other States and districts, and other vulnerable locations, including areas under the limits of Kovilpalayam, Chettipalayam and Madukkarai police stations.During the operation, police seized 20.040 kg of ganja besides synthetic drugs, including cannabis oil, methamphetamine and LSD stamps.Police also seized 13 vehicles found without valid documents and suspected to have been used for drug trafficking.Nine criminal cases were registered by the Kovilpalayam and Madukkarai police stations and the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW). Ten persons were arrested, and they were being interrogated.Police said a special team headed by an Inspector of Police has been formed to trace the source of the seized narcotic substances, identify the supply network, and apprehend others involved in the trafficking chain.The district police said further arrests and follow-up enforcement operations would continue based on the progress of the investigation, and appealed to the public to share information on narcotics-related activities with the nearest police station or through police helplines.
