The First Additional Subordinate Court in Coimbatore on Wednesday sentenced a supporter of a right wing organisation to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for attempting to murder a BJP worker, accusing him of attempting to convert Hindus into Christianity, in 2018.First Additional Subordinate Judge B.S. Kalaivani awarded the punishment to K. Radhakrishnan of Gandhi Nagar at Sivananda Colony in the city.According to the police, Radhakrishnan was a supporter of RSS and R. Thangaraj, 52, from the same locality was a BJP worker. Thangaraj converted to Christianity in 1994 and continued to remain in the party. Radhakrishnan assaulted him with a sickle, accusing him of converting Hindus to Christianity, on April 19, 2018. He was arrested by the Rathinapuri police.The court found him guilty and awarded two years of RI and a fine of ₹1,000 for the murder attempt.
