In a judgment delivered nearly 15 years after the incident, the Additional District and Sessions Court, Taliparamba, on Friday (April 17) sentenced 10 CPI(M) workers in an attempted murder case involving a bomb attack on BJP-RSS workers at Thimiri near Alakode in the district.
Presiding judge Prashant K.N. awarded rigorous imprisonment of up to 25 years along with a fine of ₹2.6 lakh each to the accused, including CPI(M) leader and activist M.K. Pradeep kumar, T.V. Binu, V.P. Sathyan, P.V. Baburaj, E.V. Vinodkumar, Vijayan, K.P. Suresh, Tobby, Janardhanan, and Sivaprakash.
According to the verdict, the second accused, T.V. Binu, was sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment. The remaining were also awarded 25-year terms. However, the court directed that their sentences run concurrently, effectively limiting their imprisonment to 10 years.
The case pertains to an incident on November 27, 2011, when bombs were hurled at a group of BJP-RSS workers on a public road at Thimiri. The attack reportedly took place in the presence of a police party, with explosives being thrown repeatedly at the group, leading to a serious charges and a prolonged legal battle.
