The Fifth Additional District Court in Coimbatore has sentenced a 68-year-old woman to life imprisonment for having murdered her husband by throwing acid on him in 2021.
The punishment was awarded to K. Jothimani of Sullivan Street for murdering her husband P. Kathiresamoorthi, 72, of Ashok Nagar near Selvapuram.
The incident took place on July 30, 2021, and Kathiresamoorthi died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on August 6, 2021.
The investigators found out that the couple had a dispute over their daughter’s inter-caste marriage held in March 2021, following which Kathiresamoorthi stopped spending on family expenses.
Jothimani poured acid on him and left when he was sleeping at the house on July 30, 2021. Kathiresamoorthi died without responding to treatment at CMCH a few days later.
