A 45-year-old woman was awarded life imprisonment, for murdering a 73-year-old woman, here on Monday (June 9, 2026).The deceased, R. Ammani, was a resident of Selavadai in Jalakandapuram. On January 31, 2017, a quarrel erupted between Ammani and V. Kalyani regarding keeping a drum and stone at the gap between the two houses. During the quarrel, Kalyani attacked Ammani and pushed her down. Ammani was injured, was admitted to the hospital and later succumbed to the injuries.The Jalakandapuram police registered a case and arrested Kalyani. The case trial was held at the Salem District Mahila Court and on Monday, the court found the accused guilty and awarded life imprisonment and also imposed ₹200 as fine.
