Many pupils back the government's decision to extend a ban on cell phones being used during class at elementary schools to middle and high schools, according to the students ANSA spoke to in Perugia on Monday at the start of the new academic year.

"It's right," one the pupils said.

"You don't need them for lessons".

A father who accompanied his daughter on her first day at her new high school was "more than in favour.

"Cell phones are fine during the rest of the day, certainly not in school," he said.
