Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said Thursday that he agreed with Italian President Sergio Mattarella's comments on the world being on the brink of the abyss after Poland said Russian drones invaded its airspace this week.
"I think so, that we are on the brink of an abyss, I agree this analysis in the sense that there is an escalation," Parolin said on the sidelines of a conference in the Vatican.
"We are truly in a moment of great danger".
During the first day of his ongoing visit to Slovenia on Thursday, Mattarella compared the current situation to that of 1914 before World War I, with the possibility of a huge conflict that no one really wants breaking out.
