Italian rapper Baby Gang was arrested on Thursday after being found in possession of a semiautomatic pistol with its serial number scratched off and a magazine with nine cartridges in a hotel room in Milan.

The 24-year-old artist, who has Moroccan roots and whose real name is Zaccaria Mouhib, was taken to Milan's San Vittore Prison after the latest in a series of run-ins with the law.

Prosecutors described Mouhib as "a very dangerous person, who manifests an obvious contempt for the authorities and law enforcement, including in his songs and performances, and habitually uses real weapons, including war weapons, in the filming of his videos" in the request for the arrest to be confirmed, sources said.

The prosecutors alleged that the rapper "enlists the support of a criminal network specializing in drug trafficking" to get the weapons, the sources said.
