The grand finale of the Road Safety Short Film Contest organised by Young Indians (Yi) Coimbatore in collaboration with Team Road Safety, was held at Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) on Monday. The event aimed to encourage students to spread awareness on road safety and responsible driving through short films.

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar was the chief guest. In his address, he said road accidents claimed nearly 15,000 lives every year in Tamil Nadu. In Coimbatore alone, 180 people had lost their lives in accidents over the past eight months, compared with 16 lives lost to other crimes in the same period. He stressed the urgent need for collective measures to reduce road accidents and commended Yi for using short films as a tool to reach the public effectively.
