Premier Giorgia Meloni hailed the government's project to build a bridge across the Strait of Messina during the meeting of the CIPESS economic planning committee that gave the definitive green light on Wednesday, sources said.
"Today's CIPESS meeting represents a fundamental stage in this government's work," Meloni said, according to the sources.
"This committee is called upon today to approve the final design of the Bridge over the Strait of Messina, to start the construction of a project that is as impressive as it is cutting-edge from a technical and engineering point of view.
"It almost goes without saying that it is strategic project for the development of the entire nation.
"It is not an easy project, but we consider it to be an investment in Italy's present and its future, and we like difficult challenges when they make sense".
