Stefano Massini, the leftwing playwright recently appointed artistic director of the Theatre of Tuscany in his native Florence, said Friday the government's mooted downgrading of the theatre Thursday was aimed at "teaching me a lesson".
"Culture is under heavy attack", this is a great comedy," said the 50-year-old writer while presenting the new season of the Theatre at the Arengario of Palazzo Vecchio.
"Last year the commission assessed that the Pergola programming should have a quality score of 29.
"To be downgraded that score must go below 9.
"It would mean that in one year the same commission decides that, suddenly, there must be 20 points less.
