Gold futures surged past $4,400 per ounce after the US economy lost 23,000 jobs in July, missing expectations of an 80,000 gain and sparking

Spot gold was up 1.3% at $4,127.04 per ounce and U.S. gold futures rose 0.8% to $4,184.40

Spot gold was up 0.4% at $4,254.11 per ounce, after hitting a seven-week high in the previous session. Prices were up over 5% for the week.
